One of the things that I do best is pay attention. I enjoy looking at situations and circumstances and seeing the many human dynamics that are involved. So often conflict can be avoided by a simple understanding of the player and their role in any particular situation. I have found that most conflict comes from an expectation that is not met. A person or entity has an expectation of something or someone and when the person or thing "falls short", conflict normally ensues.  Many time that conflict could have been avoided by simply understanding what we were "getting ourselves into."  Republican Clubs are no different.

Many times people join organizations out of an excitement for the cause or the people involved. They rarely think about what the organizations goals are, let alone if they can be realistically accomplished. They almost never look to see if those that are in leadership of the organization have the ability to accomplish the goal they have put forth. This almost always leads to conflict.  Now, when I mention conflict, it is not always angry, outward conflict. No, most times the conflict is more of a passive aggressive conflict that starts as non-compliance and ends in broken association. These conflicts almost always destroy the organization and damage personal relationships.

Republican clubs are organizations that suffer the same fate as many other organizations. I think it is because of the clear goals and objectives that Republican clubs falter. In Florida republican clubs are chartered by the state party. This process should be the clue as to what the club is there to do. Also in Florida, the club has to get the permission of local leadership before the club can be chartered.  This is another clue as to the purpose and goals of the club. Anything else it seems to me must recognize and respects the goals of the state and local parties. So, it would seem that anyone that would join a republican club in Florida would first find out what the state and local parties goals were.

Knowing these things would help focus one's expectation of what the club was all about. This also helps those in leadership of the club because they know their members are on board with state and local leadership. This should aid in getting club members to volunteer and support for candidates. This should also be useful in keeping down the amount of disruption due to unmet  expectations. These in my view are some of the most important aspects of having a successful club and club experience.
